A Brief History
Dry cleaning dates back to ancient times, probably beginning with the advent of textile clothing itself. The ruins of Pompeii give a record of a highly developed trade of ‘fullers’ who were professional clothes cleaners. Lye and ammonia were used in early laundering, and a type of clay known as ‘fuller’s earth’ was used to absorb soils and grease from clothing too delicate for laundering.
There are many stories about the origin of dry cleaning, all centering on a surprise discovery when a petroleum-type fluid was accidentally spilled on a greasy fabric. It quickly evaporated and the stains were miraculously removed. The firm of Jolly-Belin, opening in Paris in the 1840s, is credited as the first dry cleaning firm.
At ‘Exclusive Cleaners’ we follow the process of dry cleaning by the letter. All our processing equipment are equipped with up to date technical technology available. We only use the best and 100% extra virgin cleaning solvent.
The moment we receive your garments the cleaning process starts, first we check for any loose trimmings that can potentially come off during the cleaning process, make sure there isn’t anything damaging left in your pockets i.e. pens, lighters etc. Than your clothes are separated into different loads according to the type of fabric, colour and any special cleaning instructions on the care label. Once the pre clean physical process is completed we than examine your garments individually under the spot light to treat any visible stains that you may have before putting it into the dry cleaning machine.
Once the cleaning cycle is complete, your garments are passed onto our experienced professional pressers who between them have 40 years of experience in the dry cleaning industry. Your garments are than pressed and hand finished. Before we pack any garments for your collection, each individual garment is checked again by one of our quality control member of staff to make sure you have the best finish. If we have not been successful in removing any of your stains entirely we re clean your garments once again and if we are still unsuccessful in removing any of the stains we advise you accordingly on the next best possible action.
